Have you ever wondered what Smokey’s Howl or Anything Goes means? This glossary should help!
ACE – ACE stands for All Campus Events, one of the longest-running student organizations on UT’s campus. They plan the traditional events that have lasted around 100 years each – Homecoming competition, Carnicus, and All-Sing.
SHC – SHC stands for Student Homecoming Committee, which is a new committee formed in 2015 to plan events for the general student body and community during Homecoming Week. They are responsible for events like the Carnival and the Gift Card Drive.
UHC – UHC stands for the University Homecoming Committee, which is made up of representatives from departments and organizations across campus who make Homecoming Week possible.
5K Glow Run & Party– Participants can either run or walk the 3.1 mile route while wearing glow wear and glow paint. The Run will be followed by a Party at Humanities Amphitheatre.
Chalk Ped Walk – Teams are invited to use sidewalk chalk to decorate their designated square on Pedestrian Walkway according to the Homecoming theme.
Anything Goes – This ACE competition event involves a team relay race in which the teams do not know what activities they must do until they get there. Think of them as Minute-to-Win-It style games.
Smokey’s Howl – Smokey’s Howl is part of the ACE competition that focuses on spirit and creativity. Participating teams come up with their own cheer routines based on the Homecoming theme.
Office Decorating Contest – Check out various offices around campus that have been decorated according to the Homecoming theme!
Banner Drop – This ACE competition event involves hanging decorated banners on the side of Neyland Stadium. All banners are revealed at the same time, making it the Banner Drop!
Breakfast on Ped Walk – Several faculty and staff members will be handing out free healthy breakfast items and coffee on Pedestrian Walkway just to get you ready for the day!
Tower of Cans – Teams participating in the ACE competition collect canned goods in preparation for this event. The goal is to make the tallest tower in a short period of time. The canned goods are then donated to Second Harvest Food Bank.
Smokey’s Search – Smokey needs help finding resources around campus! The more resources you find, the better prize you will receive if you come to Slime Trivia!
Slime Trivia – Think you have what it takes to beat your peers in UT trivia? Then sign up to participate in this new event where a wrong answer could mean getting slimed!
Mr. and Miss Freshman Pageant – The Multicultural Mentoring Program hosts this scholarship pageant each year to allow first-year students to showcase their personalities and talents to the student body.
Vols Help Vols Come Home – SHC and CHEW are teaming up to share helpful tips on staying safe during Homecoming weekend. Visit them inside Hodges Library to write a note to someone you’re thankful for, and receive a fanny pack full of things you might need to stay safe.
Parade – The event that started it all back in 1916! This annual event brings together members of the UT and Knoxville communities for a fun parade through campus. The Post-Parade Celebration will follow on Cumberland Ave to celebrate Homecoming. All are welcome to attend!
Little Vols in the Parade/At the Ballpark – Hundreds of children and their families will join Smokey Jr. in the parade, then head over to the baseball stadium for crafts and activities.
Southeastern Stomp Fest – Stomp Fest is an opportunity for the UT student body, alumni, and Knoxville community to enjoy high energy stepping performances by NPHC Fraternities and Sororities.
Bonfire – Join SGA as we celebrate the spirit of UT with the cheerleaders, band, mascot, refreshments, s’mores, and a bonfire to celebrate the eve of the Homecoming game.
Party in the Park & Rocky Top Tailgate – Alumni, friends, family, prospective Vols, and parents will all be in attendance. Join us and share your story with these future Vols. Help us welcome new Vols to our Big Orange family!
Annual Frieson Black Cultural Center Homecoming Tailgate – Join us for a trip down memory lane as we celebrate at the Frieson Black Cultural Center. The annual tailgate is known to provide a fun-filled environment for everyone. Sponsored by the Black Cultural Programming Committee and Multicultural Student Life.
Competition Trophy Presentation – During halftime, ACE will award trophies to winning teams that participated in the Homecoming competition.
